Play Fair, Don't Litter

Peter Dowd MP, in partnership with, local councillors, Sefton Council and One Vision Housing is urging locals to take pride in where they live by grabbing a litter-picker to help keep our neighbourhoods clean and tidy, as he launches his constituency wide Clean-up campaign.

The idea is that there will be a roaming community clean-up campaign once a month in a different part of the Bootle constituency. Peter will be inviting residents to help spruce up their area by inviting them to one of a series of organised clean-up days.

The Inaugural constituency wide clean-up campaign happened on Friday 14th May on the Poulsom Drive estate in Ford Ward. It was supported by the local councillors, there were 4 skips for residents to dispose of any unwanted items and a team of volunteers out with litter pickers cleaning up the streets.

The constituency wide Clean-up campaign, which Peter Dowd MP has launched, encourages locals to do their bit by picking up a litter picker and joining the campaign.

Peter Dowd MP said: “After many years of cuts to council budgets by the Tory government and as we open up after Covid, it was fantastic to see residents pulling together at our first clean-up day, giving up their free-time to spruce up their neighbourhoods and regaining civic pride, proud people don’t litter. The vast majority of residents want our communities looking their best and that’s what I aim to do with the clean-up campaign.

This is something that everyone can play their part in, so I urge people to join me in making the constituency a clean and tidy place to live in in.”

Local councillor, Cllr Paulette Lappin, said: “This campaign has got off to a really good start, it’s great to have our Member of Parliament rallying as many people as possible to give up a few hours of their time to help us clean-up our communities. Sefton is a beautiful place to live and like everywhere, it can be spoilt by litter and rubbish and we want to restore it so everyone can be proud of where they live. Even if you aren’t able to help, just pop out and say hello!”
