Santander has revealed plans to create a new campus in Bootle as part of a £75m investment.

The site will be home to more than 2,500 staff and will replace the bank's current offices in Bootle, Sefton. Once complete, the facility will become the contact centre and operations hub for Santander UK.

The plans represent the first significant redevelopment since Santander opened in Bootle in 1968.

Santander chair Shriti Vadera said: "I’m delighted that we are celebrating 50 years in Bootle with this long term commitment to our people and the area. Bootle has been a significant part of Santander’s story and we see it as a crucial part of its future."

Peter Dowd MP said “It is brilliant news that Santander have made the commitment to redevelop there site here in Bootle, I’ve had conversations with Santander in the past on their presence in Bootle and it’s exciting to see their plans coming into action. Giro Bank and now Santander have been rooted in our community for the past 50 years and with the announcement it has an exciting future to look forward to. Here’s to the next 50 years! ”

The site will comprise an environmentally sustainable building with a range of health facilities such as a fitness centre, cycle storage and public park.

A planning application will be submitted to Sefton Council in November. Subject to approval, work could begin in 2019 with completion scheduled for 2022.
