School Diversity Week

School Diversity Week is a week in which schools and colleges across the UK celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans equality in education.

Thirty hears ago this year, Section 28 of the Local Government Act 1988 banned the "promotion" of homosexuality in schools. While the law was repealed in 2003. But unfortunately, growing up remains unacceptably tough for LGBT+ young people: 40% contemplate suicide, 50% self harm and 96% still hear homophobic remarks.

Peter Dowd MP said “I'm proud to be joining tens of thousands of pupils and teachers across the country in celebrating School Diversity Week. it’s important that we highlight LGBT in education so young people can have the confidence to embrace who they are. And it can encourage everyone in school to be positive and accepting.”
